1980 Rugby League State of Origin Snapshot - The 1980 Rugby League State of Origin series was a first for the State of Origin concept. Players qualified for either NSW or QLD based on where they played their junior rugby league. The inaugural State of Origin was a one off game and ended up being a huge success and cemented the State of Origin concept for many years to come. Queensland who had seen their players play for New South Wales in the previous state competition had a chance to show the real strength of Queensland Rugby League. The Queensland team didn't let the opportunity slip. In front of a full house at Lang Park Queensland upset not only the players but the state of New South Wales winning 20 - 10 in an emotion packed game that turned mate against mate.
