The great strides made by Vanuatu Rugby League last year will continue in 2013 with the Vanuatu South Sea Invitational side scheduled to play four games throughout QLD kicking off in late February.

Dane Campbell who has been assisting rugby league get a foothold in Vanuatu elaborates on the schedule tour. “The Vanuatu South Sea Invitational side will play Four games throughout regional QLD (Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville) and will have 10 players from Vanuatu and the rest made up from players of South Sea Islander descent from the various regional communities we stop in.”

The tour itself should arm locally based players with more knowledge of rugby league. It will also strengthen ties with Australian based players and assist the VRL with building a stronger network. All this will no doubt assist the VRL to continue to grow the game back in Vanuatu.

Asked if fans will be seeing Vanuatu at the Cabramatta 9’s Dane Campbell advised “As a result of this tour, we will not be sending a team to the Cabramatta International 9s, as we believe this tour wil take considerable finances and will suit our target market a lot better, as we get a lot of support from the South Sea Islander communities here in QLD.”

So if you’re planning to be in either Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay or Townsville during the tour be sure to get down the the local footy field and support the Vanuatu team!
