PNG Sellout for 2nd RLWC match

Date: 5/11/17

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 is pleased to announce that today’s match between Papua New Guinea and Ireland at Oil Search National Football Stadium has sold out.

It is the second successive RLWC2017 match to be sold out in Papua New Guinea after a capacity crowd of 14,800 watched the Kumuls defeat Wales last weekend.

With Ireland also winning their opening RLWC2017 match against Italy last Sunday in Cairns, the clash between the Wolfhounds and Kumuls could be vital in determining which team wins Pool C to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The latest sell-out in PNG comes less than 24-hours after the biggest attendance for a rugby league match in New Zealand this year turned out to watch Saturday night’s RLWC2017 clash between Samoa-Tonga match at Waikato Stadium.

The crowd of 18,156 exceeded the 17,587 fans who watched New Zealand’s 38-8 defeat of Samoa at Mt Smart Stadium the previous weekend.

Tickets are expected to sell fast for next Saturday’s match between New Zealand and Tonga at Waikato Stadium, which will decide which team finishes top of Pool B, while fans are also urged to buy early ahead of the final pool match in PNG next Sunday.

The full schedule for next weekend’s round 3 pool matches is (local times):

Fiji v Italy at Canberra Stadium (7.40pm)

New Zealand v Tonga at Waikato Stadium (5.10pm)
Samoa v Scotland at Barlow Park, Cairns (4.10pm)
Australia v Lebanon at Sydney Football Stadium (8.10pm)

PNG v USA at Oil Search National Football Stadium (3pm)
Wales v Ireland at Perth Rectangular Stadium (3.30pm)
England v France at Perth Rectangular Stadium (6pm)
