2014 CZRLA 1st Division Championship kicks-off with upsets

The 2014 Czech 1st Division Championship season kicked-off with the three teams who finished first, second and third in the 2013 CZRLA 1st Division all being defeated. In possibly the biggest upset of the round, the newly branded Czech Rabbitohs – made up of players from the Pardubice Jets & Chrudim clubs, which both competed in the 2013 CZRLA 2nd Division - comprehensively defeated the 2012 & 2013 Czech 1st Division Champions Lokomotiva Beroun, 38-10.

Czech Republic defeat Hungary to maintain the European Bowl

The Czech Republic have secured the European Bowl for the second consecutive year by defeating Hungary 42-16. The match was played in front of an enthusastic Vrchlabi crowd of 500 who roared with approval and chanted Ceski-Ceski as the home team opened magnificently, utterly dominating the visitors for the first 20 minutes of the match. During that period the Czech forwards constantly drove the Hungarians backwards with dominant running and the result was two tries each from prop Jiri Sluka and hooker Petr Sedina.

Teplice Dragons assume outright lead in CZRLA 1st Division

The Teplice Dragons have assumed outright lead in the CZRLA 1st Division Championship after defeating the Czech Rabbitohs 38-18 on home soil. The Dragons again used their powerful forward pack to lay the platform for their win, with team leaders Jarda Bzoch – who scored a hat-trick in his first game back in his hometown after spending last season in Auckland - & Venca Fischer capitalising on their big men’s grunt work to convert their dominance into points and consolidate a 2 wins from 2 games 2014 record.

Czech Rugby League club fundraise to help player overcome tragedy

Teplice Dragons Rugby League Club is engaged in a fundraiser for a great friend of the sport who has recently experienced a family tragedy.

The national team player was in a car accident with his family at the end of last year that ended in their hospitalisation and has resulted in his only daughter being in a coma ever since.

Czech Republic announce squad for RLWC qualifier

Czech Republic player/coach Ladislav Cintler has announced a 37-man train-on squad ahead of the opening game in European Championship C - North, against Norway in Vrchlabi on 16 June, which also doubles as the first match in the 2021 RLWC qualifiers.

Lokomotiva Beroun win 2nd consecutive CZRLA 1st Division Grand Final

Lokomotiva Beroun have gone through a second consecutive CZRLA 1st Division Championship season undefeated with a 36-28 win over Zemní Stavby Vrchlabí (formerly the Mad Squirrels) in the Grand Final.

The Czech Republic and Norway have announced their squads to play in Saturday’s international in Krupka, close to the east German border. It will be the third meeting between the nations, with each having won once.

Despite a one-sided Grand Final, which saw table-toppers Orli Havlickuv Brod impressively defeat nearest rivals Czech Rabbitohs 62-0 in Tis to win their first crown, the CZRLA is celebrating a record year of domestic matches.

Seven sides in the First Division played each other home and away, Havlickuv Brod only losing twice in a memorable year.

Czech Rugby League qualify new batch of match officials

A total of 13 new match officials, many with links to CZRLA clubs, have qualified as match officials after a dual language course. Theory sessions were run in the morning with practicals worked in tandem with a second division tournament in the afternoon, where the candidates where either shadowed as referees by tutors or worked as touch judges.

The result of the second match between the Czech Republic and Latvia’s youth teams resulted in a very similar score to Game 1 played two evenings before, but was notable for the fact the both team’s performances were a further improvement on the first match-up.
