A new champion will be crowned in Jamaica's premier rugby league competition after Liguanea Dragons upset defending champions Duhaney Park Red Sharks in their semi-final and GC Foster got past Jamaica Defence Force.

In front of a crowd of over 3,000 despite heavy rain, Jamaica just missed out on claiming the fourth annual Caribana Trophy, losing 24-20 to Canada in Toronto.

Nevertheless, JRLA head coach Romeo Monteith felt his team gave it their best effort. “The conditions were harsh with the wet ball but the boys dug deep and gave themselves a chance at the end,” he said.

Jamaican National League team ready to face Canada in Toronto

The Jamaica Rugby League Association has announced their 22-man initial squad to face Canada at the Lamport Stadium in Toronto on Saturday (July 19) kick off 7pm.

The Reggae Warriors will battle the Wolverines for the fourth annual Caribbean Carnival Cup, currently held by Canada after their 38-14 victory last time out.

Jamaica hail the end of successful tour to the Island from BARLA

The British Amateur Rugby Association (BARLA) U23s has completed a successful two week development tour of Jamaica, with outstanding performances on and off the field. The 33 strong contingent played three games in Kingston and conducted coaching clinics with several schools in the area.

A contingent of 34 players will arrive in Jamaica this weekend as a strong BARLA U23s squad make their second trip there following on from last year’s successful visit.

The entourage will arrive in Kingston tomorrow (June 1) and spend a record 15 days on the island, where they will play Jamaica ‘A’, ‘B’ and U19 teams.

Mico University crowned Intercollegiate Rugby League Champions

Mico University College defeated the University of the West Indies 42-18 to be crowned Intercollegiate Rugby League Champions and, in so doing, ended their 2013-2014 campaign unbeaten with 11 wins and 1 draw.

Mico will get an opportunity to defend their intercollegiate title after a comprehensive, ten-try 54-7 semi-final win over UTech.

The teachers-in-training were led by full back Kennard Woolery who scored a 24 points from a hat trick and six goals.

Jamaica Hurricanes defeat USA Rugby League Pioneers

The USARL Pioneers development side finished their two game tour of Jamaica, going down 50-30 to the semi-professional Hurricanes, the cream of the Jamaican game, at the Constant Spring Football Field.

The hosts were in charge 26-14 at half time, but brilliant and determined play from the Americans saw them trail by only six points with 15 minutes remaining.
