Thunderstorm called up for Malta Rugby League

Gateshead Thunder prop forward Chris Parker has been named in the train-on squad for Malta's upcoming home international against touring English amateur club, Bamber Bridge.

The 27-year-old forward, a Gateshead Storm junior, was the Thunder's most improved player in 2008.

RLIF announces 2017 World Cup path for Malta

Malta will enter World Cup Qualifying for the 2017 edition following the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) announcement this week.

The RLIF confirmed what many already knew, that this summer’s Rugby League European B and C Championships, will form part of the European qualifying framework for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

Malta Origin topple Sliema for Maltese Championship

A Gareth Barron inspired Malta Origin RL team has defeated Sliema RL to take out the 2013 MRL Dove Men+Care Championship at Melita FC this afternoon.

The British prop who signed for his club only a month ago, scored three tries to help his young side win 46-10. In doing so, the red and whites inflicted Sliema’s first loss in two seasons.

Malta coach Anthony Micallef has heralded another development move with the launch of the national squad at LivingWell Health Club.

Training together since March, the national squad is capped at 10 domestic players, includes strict attendance and dress-code requirements, social responsibility commitments, specialist training from foreign based coaches and full access to LivingWell Health Club at Hilton Malta.

Malta will have to be at their best to upset world number seven nation Ireland in a friendly international at the Melita Football Ground at Pembroke (9.00pm) Saturday evening.

Both captains and coaches addressed a press conference today at the Alexandra Hotel in St Julian’s where they told the press they were both ready for a fierce test as the first occasion the two nations will meet in a rugby league international.

West Yorkshire Police Rugby League continue unbeaten run against Malta XIII

The touring West Yorkshire Police Rugby League extended its winning streak abroad to 11 years as they took on the Malta XIII on Friday night at the Melita ground.

After touring Australia, Jamaica, Latvia, Serbia and the Czech Republic, the Police team’s last loss dates back to 2003 when they were beaten in the south of France.
