South Africa Rugby League north vs south derby results

Goodwood Rugby Club on Saturday 16 March played host to two very memorable matches. The Middelburg Tigers travelled all the way down from Mpumalanga to play against the Cape Town Buccaneers in a historic match. This was the first time in 5 years that a Northern Gauteng Club side faced off against a Western Cape Club side, and the inaugural North vs South Derby was created.

South Africa rugby league national head coach Brian Greige has begun selecting his squad for the forthcoming 2017 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers – MEA, which will see his Rhinos face Lebanon in a two-game series, scheduled for 25th and 31st October at the Brakpan Stadium in Gauteng.

South Africa Rugby League has named what chief operating officer Fanie Bredenhann describes as, “a strong, healthy and balanced train-on squad” ahead of the sport’s inaugural Middle East Africa World Cup Qualifiers later this month.

The Rhinos face Lebanon in a two-game series at the Bosman Stadium outside of Pretoria on 25 and 31 October, the first time that South Africa has hosted World Cup related games.

The touring GB & I Lions played a friendly match against the current National Club Champions, Tuks, on Wednesday 17 September 2014. The home team started on the back foot when the match official awarded a penalty kick at the start for being late in to the field, and with ferocious attacking from the visitors, the team looked flustered and conceded a brace of tries at the start.
