South African Rugby League announces captains for 2013 Rugby League World Cup


South African Rugby League today announced the Team and Tour Captains for the 2013 Student Rugby League Team for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Allan Kasselman from TUKS Rugby League will lead the team onto the field, and Christo Louw will ably assist him off the field and during the tour. Fanie Bredenhann, Director of Coaching for SARL, had the following to say” “Both players have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to be where they are today. With a touring captain and a team captain, we ensure that we have strong leadership both on and off the field.”

South African Rugby League today announced the formal registration of the first club from the newly formed North West Province. Long since thought of as a potential hotbed for new rugby league talent, the Stilfontein Hurricanes is the first club to complete the registration process.

Potchefstroom, a close neighbour of the Vaal Triangle (once a strong rugby league town), has a strong university and agriculture college and everyone is keen to see the progress they will make in the Protea Cup Challenge.

The SARL Provincial Final (Jan Prinsloo Cup) was hosted at Tuks Groenkloof Campus on 22 February 2014. The game was played with the same high-intensive spirit as with the last encounter between the two provincial teams.

2020 Rugby League MEA Championship

Draw confirmed for 2020 Rugby League MEA Championship

The draw has been made for the men’s 2020 MEA Championship, with current holders Nigeria facing Lebanon for the first time. Likewise, hosts South Africa have an inaugural encounter with last year’s runners-up Morocco in the double-header semi finals on 13th October.

Aussie lands National Coach role for South African Rugby League Rhinos

It is with great pleasure that the Board of the South African Rugby League announces that Brian Griege of Australia has been selected as National Coach of the Rhinos for 2015.

He has just returned to Australia after a three month visit to South Africa where he was involved in the training of the Rhinos with great success.

SARL Combined Clubs vs New South Wales Country League match report

The first game of the New South Wales Tour saw the team face a Combined Clubs side made up of players from all the rugby league clubs in South Africa. The match was played at Silverton Rugby Club in Pretoria this past Saturday, and although the Combined Clubs team put up a valiant effort, the experience of the New South Wales team in the end proved too much.

Pretoria youngsters set to play rugby league thanks to grant from Australian government

South African Rugby League has been awarded a youth development grant through the Australian government’s Direct Aid Programme. The $10,000 award will be matched dollar-for-dollar by South Africa Rugby League and will see the sport played in the schools of Pretoria.

The Rugby League International Federation, South African Rugby League and National Rugby League (Australia) have combined forces to send a NRL/RLIF Accredited coaching moderator to South Africa for a historic 3 month coaching development program.
