Dragons Stay Perfect as Warriors and Hyenas Win in NCC Round 3

The Liguanea Dragons maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026 Rugby League Jamaica National Club Championship (NCC) with a narrow 20-18 victory over the Duhaney Park Red Sharks as Round Three action unfolded at the Mona Bowl on Saturday.

The Dragons now lead the competition on six points from three wins. The JDF Warriors and West Kingston Hyenas are tied on four points with two wins and one loss each, while the Red Sharks and defending champions St. Catherine Thundercats sit on two points from one win and two defeats. The Washington Boulevard Bulls remain without a point after three matches.

The Dragons were made to work for their victory as tries from Kamarine Williams, Shevaune Campbell and Hakeem Richards, along with four goals from Adrian Hall, secured a 20-18 win over the Red Sharks. The result marked Liguanea’s first victory over Duhaney Park since 2014.

Despite the win, Dragons captain Michael Pearson acknowledged there is room for improvement. “It was a tough game. We had to defend for long periods because our discipline was poor. Our attack was clunky at times as well, so there are a few things for our playmakers to work on. The high point was our forwards; they really set the platform for the win,” Pearson said.

The Hyenas produced the upset of the round, edging the Thundercats 18-16. Andrew Hylton starred with two tries and two goals for 12 points, while Phillip Rowe and Eric Groves also crossed the line. Joseph Daley scored twice for the Thundercats in a losing effort.

Hyenas head coach Robert Hawes credited his team’s defense for the result. “Our team defense won us this game, hands down. We were not consistent with the ball and made too many errors, which kept us under pressure from the Thundercats. Nevertheless, I’m pleased with the win and the weekly improvements I am seeing from the team,” Hawes said.

Meanwhile, the JDF Warriors delivered the most dominant performance of the season, routing the Bulls 66-0. Shezraye Thompson led the charge with three tries and three goals, while Shamarr Cueary added four tries as the Warriors overwhelmed their opponents from start to finish.

Warriors captain and manager Jerome Laird said his team remained focused despite facing a youthful Bulls outfit. “Our plan was to fine-tune our set plays and execute. Although the Bulls are a young team, we didn’t take them lightly. We focused on execution and consistency in all departments, and that paid off for us. We’re happy to come away with the two points,” Laird said.
