KINGSTON, Jamaica — June 20, 2026 — Round Four of the Rugby League Jamaica National Club Championship (NCC) produced another exciting day of action as the Liguanea Dragons strengthened their position at the top of the standings, the JDF Warriors continued their impressive run of form, and the Duhaney Park Red Sharks reignited their campaign with a dominant attacking display.
Dragons Down Thundercats to Maintain Momentum
Dragons captain Michael Pearson praised his team’s continued development. “It was a tough match. The score probably does not reflect how challenging their team is, but overall, we are a team improving week to week. If we can increase our physicality, we will be even more dangerous as the season progresses,” said Pearson. The Thundercats’ only points came through winger Damoy Palmer. Despite the defeat, captain Tah Jay Lynch remained encouraged by aspects of his team’s performance.
“Despite the scoreline, we put up a decent fight. We completed a high percentage of our sets, which was a key goal for the game, and we experimented with a few players in new positions. Our Achilles heel was our defense through the middle, where we lacked consistency and discipline,” Lynch said.
Warriors Dominate Hyenas
The JDF Warriors maintained their pursuit of the league leaders with a commanding 30-6 victory over the West Kingston Hyenas. Centres Jowayne Forbes and Shamarr Cueary each crossed for two tries, while Shemar Burrell added another. Winger Shezraye Thompson contributed 10 points through a try and three successful conversions as the Warriors pulled away in the second half.
Captain Jerome Laird credited his side’s commitment to maintaining high standards. “Each week we are trying to raise our standards, and this game was no different. Despite a close first half, we stayed committed to our game plan and were rewarded with a dominant second-half performance,” Laird said.
The Hyenas’ lone points came courtesy of halfback Andrew Hylton, who scored and converted his own try. Head coach Robert Hawes acknowledged the challenge presented by the Warriors. “The Warriors are a big, fast and powerful team, and we struggled to contain their physicality for the full 80 minutes. We had too many turnovers, especially in the second half, and each time JDF took advantage. We need to improve our fundamentals, particularly ball security, heading into the next round,” Hawes said.
Red Sharks Overpower Bulls
The Duhaney Park Red Sharks delivered their most complete performance of the season, overpowering the Washington Boulevard Bulls 46-10. Back-rower Adrian Thomas led the way with an outstanding 18-point haul, scoring two tries and kicking five goals. Andrew Simpson and Luke O’Neil each scored two tries, while Kyjah Davis, Tavel Boodie and Chevaughn Bailey also crossed as the Red Sharks overwhelmed their opponents after halftime.
Head coach Jason Gooden praised his team’s patience and discipline. “We showed grit and heart. We didn’t rush our plays and we stuck to our systems. As a result, we kept the opponents scoreless in the second half, and that’s the kind of dominant rugby league we want to play,” Gooden said. The Bulls opened brightly and were rewarded through tries from Timarri Johnson and Shaquille Drummond, while Derone Plummer added a conversion. Despite the defeat, head coach Oshane Edie remained optimistic.
“Duhaney Park played a solid game and their experience proved the difference over 80 minutes. However, I’m very proud of our team. We put 10 points on the board in the first half and had them under pressure for large periods. We’ll refine our game plan for the next round and build on the positives,” Edie said.
