Round 3 of the French Elite 1 Championship took place over the weekend with Montpellier withdrawing from the Elite competition. Just to keep everyone on their toes the French have also rescheduled  the Carcassonne v Limoux match to the 3rd of November.

It's that time of year again where Super League and NRL competitions are coming to a climax. Over in France the're gearing up for the kick-off of their Elite 1 Championship which starts Saturday week.

In a sign of just how far the French have come since entering a team in Super League, Frenchman Remi Casty has made history this week by becoming the first Frenchman to make the Super League "Dream Team".

Nicolas Larrat announced on Saturday to the French general assembly he will not seek re-election to the post of President of the FFRXIII this October.With illness keeping him away from the congress, it was left to vice president Pascale Laroche to read out the statement which confirmed that he will not stand for a third term.

‘I’ve been supported by some extraordinary men and women over the past eight years,’ said the missive which went on to outline some of the achievements of his time in charge including the promising performances of the national side at senior and youth levels, especially under-16s, and commercial support obtained from sponsors Mutuelle des Remparts, Axa and Puma.

Top level domestic competition - In 2006 the Perpignan based Catalans Dragons entered the Super League competition. The French Elite Championship first kicked off in 1935. Currently 9 teams compete in the Elite Championship.

The final qualifiers for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup finished up in November. Australia, New Zealand, England, France and Papua New Guinea automatically qualified. The remaining five spots have seen 14 teams compete in the qualifying rounds over the last 2 years. The end result will see arguably the best 10 rugby league nations in the World battle it out in next years World Cup.
